Breaking ground and blazing trails

June 14 marked the official groundbreaking of the 43-unit Trailside apartment building — the newest addition to the Emerald Heights community. The weather was pleasant and there wasn’t an empty seat in the house, with more than 100 people in attendance. Both current and future residents were present, along with project team representatives from Rice Fergus Miller, GLY Construction, GGLO, Berger Partnership, and Lawton Project Management.

Construction crews demolish old Fitness Center to make room for Pavilion

The Coffee Shop: Nearly $100,000 raised for Benevolence Fund

When Emerald Heights residents stop by the Coffee Shop for their morning “cup of Joe,” they get a whole lot more than a jolt of caffeine and the selection of daily breakfasts available for just $2. With every visit, Coffee Shop customers are also doing their part to provide their neighbors more financial security. That’s because, as they fill their coffee cups, they are also filling the coffers of the Emerald Heights Benevolence Fund. Established in 1992, the Benevolence Fund offers financial assistance to those residents whose funds have depleted over time.

Meet Sharon Howell

Personal Training: Transforming lives one session at a time

Emerald Heights has always had a strong fitness program, with group classes and easy access to fitness machines and the pool. But the introduction of the Personal Training sessions, available to residents for a modest fee, raised the program to a new level. In these 30-minute, private sessions, residents receive personalized instruction in the proper technique for each exercise and a personalized fitness plan designed to help them achieve their individual goal, whether it is to build strength, improve their balance or get out of a wheelchair.

The Nature Trail: From vision to completion

All Aboard! How the Garden Railway Came to Be

The construction of the Emerald Heights Garden Railway began with one resident's passion, 47 yards of topsoil to build the mountain and terrain, and 250 feet of track. Then residents got involved in much more elaborate details, such as building replicas to scale from historic photos to early 1900-era Redmond and Issaquah.

Outdoor Club reaches new peaks of fitness and fun

The Emerald Heights Outdoor Club was established in 2009 after a resident survey conducted in January revealed a strong interest in outdoor activities. Since then, a hearty and enthusiastic group of Emerald Heights residents, aged 72 to 94, have been hitting the trails throughout the Pacific Northwest.
