Our purpose

Continually evolving to reflect the desires of today’s seniors.

Emerald Heights, an affiliate of Emerald Communities, is a nonprofit [501(c)(3)] senior living community that has been a cornerstone of the Redmond area since the early 1990s. As the only not-for-profit Life Care community serving Redmond, Bellevue, Issaquah and Kirkland, WA, we provide an independent, active, and maintenance-free lifestyle with lifetime access to long-term health care services.

Our roots

A rich history of stability and innovation

Emerald Heights was founded through the vision and determination of Whitney Corwin, a Bellevue resident who, in 1979, assembled a task force to create a premier Life Plan Retirement Community on the Eastside. Despite financial challenges during the 1980s Savings and Loan Crisis, Corwin and the Eastside Retirement Association (ERA) secured international funding and community support, including sponsorship from First Presbyterian Church of Bellevue. In 1987, land was acquired in Redmond, Washington, and by 1992, Emerald Heights opened its doors. Today, Emerald Heights continues to thrive as a nonprofit retirement community, proud of our Christian heritage, we continue to draw from our core values of Integrity, Courage, Trust, Compassion, and Respect. We are currently governed by a dedicated board of directors and committed to serving generations of older adults with integrity, compassion, and purpose.
