Recent News: Seattle Pi | Redmond To Host Parade Of Love This Weekend For Senior Citizens

June 23, 2020

While many Washington residents have been able to get out of the house for grocery shopping, waterfront strolls and catching up with a friend over coffee as restrictions in wake of the novel coronavirus, not all of those most at-risk have had the same level of leisure.

To show some much-needed love to a group of Washington’s senior citizens, Emerald Heights, a non-profit senior living community in Redmond, is hosting a family and friends Parade of Love for residents to safely interact with their loved ones this weekend during this social distancing time.

All those wishing to participate will meet at the Redmond High School parking lot this Saturday, June 20 at 10:30 a.m. to finish decorating cars with balloons, signs, streamers, and washable paint.

The Emerald Heights vehicle will then lead the parade at 10:50 a.m. to the senior community, around the loop road. Emerald Heights residents will vote on the best decorated car, with a prize for the winner.

Participants are asked to stay in their vehicles to waive, honk, flash their lights and show the residents some socially distant love.

The following will be the route to the Emerald Heights Campus:

  • Right out of the school parking lot onto 104th St.
  • Right onto 166th St. (by St. Jude Church)
  • 166th turns into 111th St. (sharp right turn)
  • Go up the hill, 111th St. turns into 176th St.
  • Turn right into Emerald Heights Campus
